These tracks were recorded during the sessions for their final album, *The Last Spire*, released in 2013. Though their existence had been forgotten until recently, producer Gomez discovered them and mixed them. Cathedral’s true final work, with tracks lasting approximately 30 minutes each, is a work that mercilessly and uncompromisingly embodies a scathing observational eye, musical eccentricity, brutal riffs, and an enigmatic self-absorption. In Japan, it will be released on the day marking the 32nd anniversary of Cathedral’s first concert in Japan. Cathedral, the guardian deity of British hard rock and heavy metal, was formed in 1990 by Lee Dorrian, who had served as the vocalist for Napalm Death, the emperor of the extreme music world, after leaving the band. In stark contrast to the musical style of Napalm Death—touted as the fastest in the world—Cathedral made their debut as pioneers of doom metal, a genre that could be described as a modern interpretation of Black Sabbath. From the very beginning, Lee intended to disband Cathedral after releasing 10 albums, and following the release of their 10th album, *The Last Spire*, in 2013, he brought the band’s activities to a close as promised. Since their first visit to Japan in 1994, they have performed in Japan seven times.
