A flexible mix of Northern Soul, Motown, Surf Rock, Jive, Trip Hop, and even Indian music ragas, moving back and forth between underground and overground, blending retro and modern time signatures, and creating a heartwarming and bizarre dream world of gem-like pop songs, all 12 songs. Nine vocalists, including Francis Reader (Trashcan Sinatras), Carmie Love, and Africa Baby Bam (Jungle Brothers). This is a highly recommended disc for Mark Ronson fans. Noonday Underground is the project of Simon Dine, whose first album "self-assembly" was released in 2001 and took the London club scene by storm, receiving rave reviews in various media and leading to Paul Weller's public declaration in NME magazine that he is a Noonday fan. The crisp vocals with northern soul-like melodies, exhilarating horn arrangements, and punchy grooves are addictive [M3], and the smoky, shouted vocals with CHIC-like light guitar cutting and heavy bottom grooves are highly addictive [M5], and other songs, such as retro and modern timeframes blend together to create a one-and-only pop album of heartwarming, outlandish, dream-world-like gems.
