Series "Otoko no Rirekisho" (Male Resume): A new project series "Otoko no Rirekisho" has started, which compiles and presents the recordings of legendary players who participated in the early stages of their careers. The first installment of this series features the "drummer among drummers," Bernard Purdie! In the late 1960s, he became one of the top drummers in both name and reality, appearing on sessions with James Brown and Bob Marley before his breakthrough. In 1970, he became the drummer and musical director for Aretha Franklin, and since then has worked with Gil Scott-Heron, B.B. King, The Last Poets, Duane Allman, Jeff Beck, Todd Rundgren, Laura Nyro, Miles Davis, Steely Dan, Alice Cooper, and SMAP, Toshinobu Kubota, and others. The number of times they have been sampled would reach astronomical numbers.Although the perdie shuffle, the Dachichey sound of later years, has not yet blossomed, the sound of the kick (bass drum), the beautifully tuned toms, the use of the rim (edge of the toms), the use of the hi-hat that skillfully balances the open and closed position, the even hitting of the top cymbal, and so on, are all (perhaps) a simple set of three plus α instruments, yet the beats and grooves are endlessly dynamic.
