Second album featuring the classic song "First Cut Is The Deepest", covered by many artists! This CD contains all the songs from "New Masters" (Dec. 67/????), the second and last album in Deram, following the first (Mar. 67/???? #7 in UK). ～December 1967/?) The album also included three single numbers from the period, from ? (all mono versions/? (all mono versions/? is not included on the album) were added as bonus tracks. Produced by Mike Hurst as on the previous album, this is an excellent collection of original songs highlighting the author's version of "First Cut Is The Deepest," but for some reason it failed to chart. The recording of that "First Cut is the Depths" featured Big Jim Sullivan (lead guitar), John Paul Jones (bass), and Chris Hunt (drums), as well as producer Hurst on chorus harmonies and rhythm guitar. It is interesting that Stevens' R&B style, which was written with Otis Redding in mind, takes on a completely different flavor when he sings. A great song, of course. ～From the commentary
