Eddie "Blues Man" Kirkland
Description:
Eddie Kirkland's memorable first leader album (1962) is also his best album. The band under the direction of King Curtis sounded very stable, and the addition of two tenor saxophones by Curtis and Oliver Nelson gave the songs a particularly heavy, urban feel. The song "Have Mercy on Me" is the best hardcore Chicago blues on the album, and is a must-listen. Two bonus tracks from the Volt era have been added.
