The Ramblers, who had a minor hit with the dusky instrumental "Boss" in February 1963, may only be known to surf instrumental fans for this one song. The Ramblers may be known only to surf instrumental fans for this one song. In addition, their B-side, the strong vocal number "I Don't Need You No More," is also well known to garage fans. However, their other instrumental numbers, which have their own unique and mysterious moods, deserve a new appreciation today. The deep R&B-oriented sound, the wild and powerful teenage performance, and the cool and restrained arrangements, which are not typical of teenagers, remind us of the depth of the California rock and roll scene in the early 1960s, and are very attractive.
