Waaju is a British group that has gained popularity for its musicality that transcends the boundaries of contemporary jazz and incorporates elements of various genres, including traditional Moroccan Gnawa music, African and Middle Eastern rhythms, funk, and even electronic music. Alouane" was recorded live by Waaju with leading Gnawa musician Majid Beckus. Alouane, which means "color" in Arabic, symbolizes the seven colors that play an important role in Gnawa music. Each of these colors represents a different spirit, and most Gnawa songs are associated with one of these seven colors. This album was recorded primarily at the Church of Sound in London, a live venue known for its use of churches, where songs like "Bania," where the energy reaches its zenith with the crowd's shouts, to the delicate, introspective atmosphere of Majid's solo "Lando," where a variety of styles of sound.
