Description:
This is a rich compilation album of all the musical cultures of the Amazon River basin, condensed into two discs. The album begins with "Boi Guitarreiro," a number from "Carimbo Shamegado," a modernized version of the traditional music of the state of Pará, by Donna Onecic, a late-blooming female singer and songwriter from northern Brazil at the mouth of the Amazon River on the Atlantic side, and then moves on to "Guitarrada," a guitar-led melody, also called "song without singing," which is an instrumental style music. The song is an instrumental-style guitarada that traces a melody on the guitar. Then, "Canoa Voadeira" by Patricia Bastos, a female singer from Mapaca, a town on the northern bank of the estuary, whose beautiful and mysterious voice is set to the ancient rhythms of the Amazon River basin. DISC 1 is a mix of old and new numbers in a variety of styles from Brazil to Venezuela, including psychedelic folk, carimbo, folklore, and field recordings by a minority tribe in the Amazon jungle.DISC 2, which begins in Colombia, features cumbia by Manoel Cordeiro on guitar and a solo by charango virtuoso Federico Tarazona, and moves on to the Pacific side of Peru, eventually reaching Bolivia, the source of the Amazon River. The album contains 27 songs by 27 artists. The book is the size of two vertical CDs, with detailed explanations in English and French, and introductions of each artist with photographs. With these two CDs, you can experience all of the diverse musical cultures that live and breathe in the Amazon River Basin. Includes Japanese commentary and obi.
