Parissa & Ensemble Dastan

Description:

The music of Iran and Persia is once again attracting the attention of world music fans. The new label "30M Records," which was established in Hamburg, Germany, has been leading the way as a platform for a new generation of Persian performers, but of course Persian music itself has been on the rise several times before. One of the most talked about artists in the early 2000s was a female classical vocalist named Parissa. In 2006, Rice Records released "Persian Classical Vocal Music Today" (NWR-3202), a two-disc set that attracted much attention and is still in their catalog. Parissa was born in Iran in 1950. She began learning singing at an early age and started her career as a professional singer when she was 18 years old. During her visit to Japan, she also made a recording, which was released under the title "JVC WORLD SOUNDS Persian Exquisite Singing" (Victor). However, she was forced to stop her musical activities due to the Iranian Revolution that broke out in Iran shortly thereafter, and she was unable to sing in public at all until the ban was lifted in 1995. After that, she continued her activities steadily, releasing several live albums on Iranian labels in the U.S., and in 2003, "Revival of Persian Classical Vocal Music" (original title: Shoorideh) was released under the production of "Network Medien," a prestigious German label. This is her first world market release. It was her first work for the international market and her first studio recording. It later won the famous French music prize, the "Charles Claux Prize," and made her presence known all over the world. The Ensemble D'Astin, formed in 2001, was chosen to accompany the recording of this memorable work. The combination of a veteran singer with this (then) young group created a fresh tension and chemical reaction that led to worldwide acclaim.Incidentally, the sequel to this work is "Persian Classical Vocal Music Today," and thanks to the success of this work, it makes sense that that work was produced immediately. This is a masterpiece among masterpieces that takes you into the profound world of Persian classical vocal music. If you like vocal music, this is a must-have for you.
