Description:

This work was produced in 1964, and the composer decided the parameters of the sound by rotating a diagram drawn on a square piece of paper at 90-degree intervals. For example, the vertical and horizontal axes were determined freely, such as frequency on the vertical axis, time on the horizontal axis, and intensity on the vertical and horizontal axes, respectively. Furthermore, the coloring on the drawing was used to determine the timbre of the sound. In the production process, we created clusters of sine waves with transient tones, or "transients. The transient tones were created using only transient tones, such as the transient oscillation sound that occurs before the vacuum tubes heat up when the six-channel sine wave oscillator is turned on, or the sound that occurs when a sine wave cluster is instantly applied to a speaker that is about to be damaged.2 Assenbridges for Tape This work incorporates indeterminate elements in the same way as "Transient '64," the first piece produced in 1969. The distinctive feature of this piece is the use of a "photoformer" as the oscillating sound source.Electronic music had previously used sound sources with fixed waveforms such as sine waves, sawtooth waves, and square waves, as well as white noise, but realized that it was impossible to create free tones with these oscillators. The photoformer was then conceived. This is a type of "voice arbitrary waveform generator" that was developed to generate electronic sounds by drawing freeform figures and viewing them as waveforms. This device is very old, dating back to 1963. At that time, it was still believed that tone was determined by the waveform.
