Live recording of Abbado's Salzburg Festival and Vienna Philharmonic debut at the age of 32! The 32-year-old Abbado made his first appearance with the Vienna Philharmonic at the Salzburg Festival in 1965, winning the Mitropoulos International Conducting Competition in 1963 (the other winner was Zdenek Koschler) and becoming the assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic. After hearing Abbado as a guest conductor with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Karajan recommended him to the Salzburg Festival. For the program, he chose "Resurrection," which he had studied as Bernstein's assistant. In later years, this piece became one of Abbado's favorites, and it is no exaggeration to say that this live performance was his most exciting. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which is full of musicians, starts out awkwardly at the beginning of the piece, but the more Abbado makes them sing, the more flexible they become, and the more they all sing together, the more uplifting and moving the performance is. The sound of the Vienna Philharmonic, which had preserved its local color, was remote, nostalgic, and charming. With this great success, Abbado made his first appearance with the Berlin Philharmonic the following year and again at the Salzburg Festival. He would achieve worldwide fame as a new champion.The original was in mono, and this time it is reissued from a new source. You can enjoy the beautiful sound with a wide range of sound.
