This is the first in a series of reissues of Michelangeli's popular recitals from the French National Institute of Audiovisual Research (INA). This album is the first authorized release of Michelangeli's recital at Salle Pleyel in Paris on November 11, 1978. Michelangeli's favorite pieces are Beethoven's Piano Sonatas Nos. 3 and 11, and Brahms' Four Ballades. Michelangeli has always been a stickler for his repertoire, aiming for the highest heights and performing to perfection. Beethoven's early works No. 3 and No. 11 are among his best, and he has performed them in many concerts. The Brahms in the second half is also a favorite repertoire of Michelangeli. The same piece was recorded by DG in February 1981, but in this live performance, Michelangeli changed the expression of each piece and played it with a rich sense of color. The audience's enthusiasm after the performance can be felt in this live performance. The Japanese obi and commentary are not included. King International
