"BARDA," a Rising Star in Latin American Electronic Dance Music, Makes His Album Debut Barda, a rising star in South American electronic music, makes his album debut. Fusing captivating rhythms and tones rooted in Latin America with modern club sounds, Barda has emerged as a leading act in the current scene—pioneered by Chanchá, Beer Circuito, and Barrio Lindo—by exploring a unique, organic style of electronic dance music. This is their first physical release. Barda is the solo project of Cecilia Gebhardt, a musician, producer, DJ, and composer based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Emerging in the late 2010s and early 2020s with releases on key South American electronic labels such as ShikaShika and FertilDiscos, she is a rising talent expected to make even greater strides. She also contributed a remix to “KalabMixedMyanmar#1,” a rare Japan-based project connecting Myanmar with the world, alongside top-tier producers from various countries. This album, ArbolesNativos, is Barda’s third full-length album, following 2022’s ElSuenoSobreElSueno. The album title means “native trees.” It pays homage to various elements of the entire ecosystem, including trees, the small animals that gather there, and the surrounding landscapes. While the album is characterized by a rich sound created by layering multiple synthesizer tracks, many parts—from the bassline, guitar, balafon, and lead instruments to the pads and even the rhythmic synth patterns—are performed live in real time, infusing the entire album with a sense of vitality and a vibrant spirit, true to its title. Gus Gonçalves makes a guest appearance on “Valle Encantado.” Her velvety-smooth vocals and poetic lyrics inspired by nature add color to a profound and enchanting musical world. The contrast between the up-tempo beats and the distinctive rhythmic patterns of bombo reguero is striking. The album is packed with variety, ranging from restrained slow grooves, emotional cumbia vocal tracks, ambient sounds, and polyrhythms to high-energy floor bangers. A superb album that brings new dynamism to the South American electronic scene! Bonus tracks include remixes by JinYerei, NoNProject, Mysterika, BarrioLindo, and SanIgnacio. Released on his own label, “BASALTO.”
