Why this front at this point in time, 21 years after the close? For one thing, surprisingly, no one had done anything about it yet. For one thing, surprisingly, no one had done anything about it yet, even though there are things to talk about. For another, the clubs of today, like Robert Johnson and Berghain, have inherited a lot of the spirit of the front office, like diversity and open-mindedness, don't they? And also simply that it still seems fun to dance with the selections of that era. I think this is a project that needs to be presented to the world now. - Gerd Jansson (Running Back) "Front" was a legendary night club in Hamburg, Germany, from the mid-80s to the late 90s. Masters at Work, Frankie Knuckles, Derrick May, and others played there, contributing to the establishment and development of European club culture (along with Manchester's Hacienda). The club sadly closed in 1997, but the spirit of the club was passed on to Robert Johnson and Berghain, and continues to this day. Countless DJs and label members, including Atta of Playhouse, honed their skills at the Front. A tribute project to Front is now being released by Running Back, a prestigious label that has worked with Todd Terrier, Theo Parrish, Radio Slave, and others.This 2-CD package was selected and mixed by Klaus Stockhausen and Boris Dlugosz, both resident DJs at the front. Starting with Danny Krivit's favorite Blue Moderne, Sky, Modern Romance, Mood II Swing, Nick Holder, Steve Arrington, and many more. The album is filled with rare tracks that can only be heard as singles. Post-disco, electro/freestyle, funk, garage classics, italo, deep house, and more... an eclectic mix of old and new underground dance music from various eras! A unique opportunity to relive the dense atmosphere of an era that has now become a legend and a mystery, before the club scene of today was formed. 24-page booklet with bilingual translation included.
