He who knows sorrow is precious. In this 13th work, released about a year after his last work "MOONAGE," he not only wrote all the lyrics, composed, arranged, and sang all the songs, but also played all the instruments by himself. Although he has performed some of the songs on previous albums, this is the first time he has performed all of the songs on an album. Nakata's creative drive, which he says was sparked by last summer's "Tsubakiya Quartet 20th Anniversary," a limited-time live event held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the group's debut and which attracted a great deal of attention from fans old and new, has led to the creation of this new album, a collection of pop and pop-oriented songs, which is the axis of Nakata's songwriting. The 10 songs on this album show further refinement of Nakata's sense of melody, which combines pop and elegance, and his poetry, which emphasizes Japanese resonance and emotion, the two pillars of his songwriting. The title "Archaic Smile" refers to the expression of the mouth on statues from the Archaic period in Greece, especially in the middle of the 6th century BC. The lips are slightly upturned at both ends, creating a smiling expression. Similar expressions are also found in early Chinese and Japanese Buddhist statues. (From the manufacturer's information)
