Born in Paris and based in Brooklyn, New York, Aduline grew up influenced by a wide range of music, from classic soul artists like Chaka Khan, Prince, and Curtis Mayfield to garage, disco, and even ’90s house music. Videos of her live performances and bass-playing that she’s been posting on social media for several years have garnered high praise among a select group of black music enthusiasts (the track “Redo,” included as a bonus track on this release, is from that era—a brilliant piece that can be considered a forerunner of the still-raging boogie-disco boom!). Her single “Emeralds,” released digitally last year, instantly became the talk of the town and was featured in music magazines and websites such as Rolling Stone, The Fader, Vice, and Vogue. This album, released after much anticipation, is a comprehensive and rewarding listen that truly serves as the culmination of her career.
