Description:

Following the previous recording of the "Matthew Passion," the new recording by the Meiji Gakuin Bach Academy under the direction of Higuchi? The new recording by the Meiji Gakuin Bach Academy under the direction of Hajime Higuchi is Beethoven's late great work "Missa solemnis," which he himself called "the greatest work" and wrote in his autograph score, "Out of the heart, let the heart be content. The 2010 edition of the original Carls edition, revised by Ernst Hertrich, is used in this performance, and as in the previous "Matthew Passion," the tenor is John Elwis, bass Katsunori Kono, soprano Mai Washio, and mezzo-soprano Chieko Teratani, both up-and-coming singers, are featured. The Meiji Gakuin Bach Academy was founded in 2000, the 250th anniversary of Bach's death, with the motto of "study and practice (performance)," under the leadership of Artistic Director Higuchi Kazuichi. The orchestra also uses ancient instruments in Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis," with concertmaster Kenshi Kiriyama providing a haunting solo violin performance in the fourth piece, Sanctus. The "Missa Solemnis" is one of the most difficult pieces for the choir, but under the direction of Ryuichi Higuchi, the audience will be able to hear the true essence of the piece in this moving live performance at Suntory Hall! The "Missa Solemnis" is one of the most difficult pieces for the choir to perform.Score used Ernst Hertrich's original Karls edition (2010)About Dr. Hertrich is the chief editor of "The Complete Works of Beethoven". As an invited professor at Meiji Gakuin University, he and his wife visited Japan in 2006 and participated in the Meiji Gakuin Bach Academy Choir. This performance with an ancient instrument orchestra was Dr. Hertrich's suggestion at that time. Universal Music/IMS
