Furtwängler’s Live Performance Just Before Going Into Exile Revived in a New Remaster! 2-track, 38 cm/19 cm, open-reel tape reissue ■From the Producer Furtwängler’s performance of Franck’s Symphony and Brahms’ Symphony No. 2—recorded just before his exile to Switzerland—has become legendary for its breathtaking intensity. In this series, we released GS-2132 (now out of print) in 2015 using a 2-track, 19-centimeter open-reel tape; now, after approximately eight years, we have revamped the sound quality and re-added it to our catalog. First, for the Franck symphony, we used a newly acquired 2-track, 38-centimeter open-reel tape to achieve more stable sound quality. For the Brahms Symphony No. 2, we used the same 2-track, 19-centimeter tape as in GS-2132, but we improved the sound quality by performing the entire mastering process using professional-grade equipment. Although there are various theories regarding the recording dates, we have followed the notation on the tape obtained in Berlin (used for GS-2132) and listed both tracks as recorded on “January 28.” (Naoya Hirabayashi) King International
