He is a composer and lute player who is considered to be one of the greatest lute musicians of the 16th and 17th centuries. He left behind beautifully detailed works that absorbed and reflected the music and literature of Europe during the period of transformation from the Renaissance to the Baroque. In addition to his masterful lute solos, his lute songs are gems of English song, in which English poetry and music, song and lute, richly communicate with each other. The duo "Vox Poetica" was praised by Hopkinson Smith, the famous luthier and teacher of Leonardo Takii, who said, "Vox Poetica fills the soul with perfect joy and perfect sorrow.
