A Dialogue with the Viola in Tradition and InnovationKoichi Komine, principal viola player of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra and an active soloist and chamber musician, will present the Sonatas for Viola Sonata solo, composed by Hindemith, a composer who loved the viola, using his own craftsman-like writing style to maximize the capabilities of this instrument. The four sonatas are performed with solid interpretation and unwavering performance, bringing out the charm of the four different sonatas and highlighting the universal scenes of Hindemith's works. Koichi Komine, violaKoichi Komine studied violin under Kenichi Miyazawa from the age of six, and switched to viola at the age of eleven. She studied viola under Junji Suganuma, B. Pasquier, C. Lerone, and F. Nyeri, and gave her debut recital at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan in 2007 (sponsored by the Japan Federation of Musicians), which was well received by various magazines including "Music Today. In the same year, she received the Bonnat Museum Prize from the Maurice Ravel International Academy of Music and was invited to give a recital at the "Recital de Printemps" in Ravel's birthplace.In 2014, she appeared as a soloist in the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra's "New Year Concert" (Junichi Hirokami, conductor); in 2015, she performed Schumann "Piano Quintet" with M. Argerich at the Beppu Argerich Music Festival; in 2019, she will premiere Kenji Sakai's "Viola Concerto 'Historia'" with the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra ( In 2022, she will perform again with Mr. Argerich in Beppu. In addition, he has appeared at numerous music festivals and on the radio, including Viola Space, Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto (now Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival), Recital Nova (NHK-FM), and with J. Poullet, O. Charlier, Jan Songwon, E. Strossé, G. Hoffmann, and the Wihan String Quartet. Her debut solo album "Monologue" (unaccompanied viola works), released in 2020, was highly acclaimed by various newspapers and was selected as a special edition by Record Geijutsu magazine. The Kansai String Quartet, which he formed in 2012, performs a variety of string quartets, with a focus on Beethoven.In addition to her regular activities, she has performed extensively, including appearances on Classic Club (NHK-BSP) and Best of Classics (NHK-FM), and with Yasutsugu Toyoshima and the renowned Pražák Quartet from the Czech Republic. 2014 Osaka Cultural Festival Award Encouragement Prize and 2015 Sakuya Konohana Award Winner; CD " Glazunov & Borodin" was released. As for performances on original instruments, she has participated in Bach Collegium Japan, Orchestra Libera Classica, and Hidemi Suzuki's Gut Salon, performing with Hidemi Suzuki, Natsumi Wakamatsu, and Shunsuke Sato. He was a student of the Orchestre de Paris Academy and Principal of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, and is currently Principal of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra. He is a member of Kioi Hall Chamber Orchestra, Kansai String Quartet, and Kyoto Lavish Ensemble. Part-time lecturer at Kyoto City University of Arts and Soai University. Tobu Shoji Co.
