Beach is an excellent melodist with a romantic sensibility and is a standout on this album. As a pre-war American female composer, she piques my interest. What’s interesting is Vieuxtemps’ *Memories of America*. After an introduction characteristic of Vieuxtemps, the melody of *Ten Thousand Feet in the Alps* appears immediately. This is varied repeatedly and builds to a climax at the end. There’s also no shortage of other works—such as those by D’Ambrosio—that make you think, “If this were a work by Kreisler, it would surely be much better known.” The “Love Song” from the title role and the final piece by Saint-Saëns can truly be called masterful performances of magnificent masterpieces, can’t they?
