This CD is a rare collection of recordings that traces the origins and evolution of Skip James, and by comparing recordings from 1931 and 1964, it reveals the depths of his music. This CD is a rare collection of Skip James' 1931 Paramount recordings and his 1964 post-revaluation recordings, allowing the listener to experience his musical evolution and the essence of the blues. In 1931, James made his first recordings for Paramount Records, but the Great Depression prevented him from being widely known. The 60's blues revival led to his rediscovery, and he appeared at the Newport Folk Festival, and in 1964, Melodeon Recordings released a reissue of his prewar compositions, which featured his mature singing and playing.
