Soul diva Etta James, a singer who entered the world of music at the age of 14 and sang until the flame of life burned out. Her powerful vocals, which echoed throughout her checkered life, greatly influenced Janis Joplin and gave birth to many followers in later generations, including Keith Richards and Beyoncé. This 2-in-1 album contains his mid-period masterpieces "Call My Name" (1966) and "Queen Of Soul" (1964), both released on Argo, a Cadet label affiliated with Chess. Both are the preludes to "Tell Mama" (1968), later to be considered a Southern Soul masterpiece, and both are highly regarded for their tremendous shouts.
