The story is set in 1972, in Okinawa on the eve of its reversion to Japan. A bank armored car transporting cash is attacked by unknown assailants, and $1 million is stolen. At the time, preparations were underway in Okinawa for the yen-dollar exchange (the dollar had been used under U.S. occupation, but the return to Japan required conversion to the yen). The Ryukyu Police formed a special task force to resolve the matter secretly, fearing that if the incident became known to the Japanese and U.S. governments, it could escalate into a diplomatic issue. Although the incident was initially suspected to be the work of local gangsters, the U.S. government’s ulterior motives loomed in the background. With an 18-day deadline, the Ryukyu Police embark on their final mission. A battle for the future of Okinawa begins. ■ Issei Takahashi delivers a powerful performance as a detective questioning his own identity! Issei Takahashi stars as Taichi Maeda, the team leader of the Special Response Unit. The cast features a lineup of talented actors, including Takamitsu Aoki, Kaoru Kobayashi, Kazuki Sawamura, and Yu Shirota. In addition, the cast features Okinawa-born actors such as Chiho Kiyoshima, Riku Kashima, Takara Sakumoto, MAAKIII, and Shisa Fujiki, alongside Ryohei Hirota, Kana Kita, Jeffrey Lowe, and Bengaru. ■Based on the novel by Izumi Sakagami × Directed by Hideyuki Hirayama The film is based on the novel of the same name by Izumi Sakagami, who garnered attention in 2021 when her novel Invisible won the 23rd Haruhiko Oyabu Award and was nominated for the Naoki Prize. The film is directed by Hideyuki Hirayama, who won the Best Director Award at the 22nd Japan Academy Film Awards for A Person Begging for Love.
