Description:
The "Ultimate Private Press" is back. The only album by unknown West Coast saxophonist Mike Sergia, including the heavyweight jazz funk "Blue Strength," which appeared on the Luv'N Haight compilation, is now available on CD for the first time in the world. The world's first CD release. Fresno, West Coast. The album was born in Fresno, California, a city located between San Francisco and Los Angeles. The reason for the "ultimate" nature of this album is that it was recorded in only one day and only 300 copies were pressed, and the cover illustration, credits, and label are all hand-drawn and hand-made. This album, of which only one copy was self-published by the multi-reed player Mike Ceresia, contains the aforementioned "Blue Strength," a heavyweight jazz-funk track from the Luv' N Haight compilation "Bay Area Funk 2," as well as spirituals, modals, abstractions, and even raggas, Abstract, and even raga. The originality of the sound also makes this album an "ultimate" album. Two of the most interesting tracks are "Blue Strength" and "Raga".The opening Coltrane cover "Mr. P.C." is modal jazz with Celesia's sax roaring as if fueled by ferociously propulsive bass and drums. The Roland Kirk-like development is also a first-class spiritual dancer that invites excitement. Then comes "Blue Strength," a shivering jazz funk with a log-thick bass swinging around, cowbells tapping out the rhythm, and a barrage of drums. The vibrancy of the beat branded on the high-pressure, bare, raw sound is so realistic that you feel as if you are listening to it right in front of your eyes. Other tracks include the mysterious flute number "Yusefs Way," which seems to be dedicated to Yusef Latif, the Latin-tinged jazz funk "Flavor," the swinging Horace Silver cover "Silvers Serenade," and the abstract and psychedelic "Castle Spook. Castle Spook" and more, this collector's item is packed with the ferocious early impulses of the band in their unorganized state. Comes in an A-format paper jacket that faithfully reproduces the original jacket. SHOUT! PRODUCTIONS
