Description:
Gretchen Parlato's latest studio recording, her first in 10 years. A masterpiece of sophistication, it features David Bowie, J.S. Bach, Pisinguinha, and others with a graceful acoustic mellowness and exhalation. The members are Marcel Camargo, a Brazilian guitarist and cavaquinho player who influenced Gretchen's view of Brazilian music and performed with her on "Behind Jobim," Artyom Manoukian, a cellist in LA who is attracting attention as a new generation cellist from Armenia, and Leo Costa, a synth player who also plays on this album. Percussionist Leo Costa, who will also play a synth in this project, will participate. Also featured are Brazilian music maestro Aiato Moreira (vo, perc), Gerald Clayton (p, rhodes), Mark Juliana (ds), and others. Included are M1, the famous opening track from Joao Gilberto's "March Water," M2, a big hit from Anita Baker's 1986 "Rapture," M3, which was also sung by Tillery, M4, a Pisinginha classic, M6, Roy Hargrove, and M8, J.S. Bach's Suite for Unaccompanied Cello, and M9, Devid Bowie's last studio recording, and Gretchen's unique selection. First release in Japan.
