The live album of the 1956 performance at the Olympia, which marked the beginning of the rise of Amalia Rodriguez, the queen of Fado, to international stardom, has been newly mastered and reissued. The Olympia was an important music hall that could be called the cathedral of the postwar Parisian music scene. The first Portuguese to perform there was Amalia, who had just had a hit with "Dark Barge," an insert song for the French film "Love with a Past. Amalia was performing for a French audience that was hearing real fado for the first time. Amalia sang with all her might, despite her nervousness. The audience cheered loudly. This is a historic album vacuum-packed with the brilliance of the moment when fado took off around the world.
