Description:

The Latin word "dulcedo" — "sweetness" — was used in its day to describe music of the finest quality. The clavicimbalum, said to be the earliest form of harpsichord, together with the medieval lute and the medieval harp, were loved for their uniquely delicate sonorities. This programme explores that beguiling sound world. [Corina Marti: clavicimbalum] Studied at the Lucerne Academy of Music and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, taking her degree at the latter. She has won prizes in numerous competitions in Switzerland, Poland and elsewhere. Alongside her solo career she is active as a chamber musician. La Morra, the ensemble she co-directs, has released many highly acclaimed recordings of music from the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, among them a complete edition of the works of Johannes Ciconia that won a Diapason d'Or and the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik. She teaches medieval recorder and keyboard instruments at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. [Michał Gondko: medieval lute] Born in Poland. After graduating from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis he devoted himself as a soloist to unearthing the plucked-string repertoire of the fifteenth century and earlier. His recording of music from his native Poland for the Dux label won an early music record of the year award in 2003. In 2000 he founded the early music ensemble La Morra with Corina Marti, his partner both professionally and personally. He has made numerous solo and medieval instrument recordings, including an album for clavicimbalum — the oldest surviving harpsichord — and lute, all of them warmly received in Japan and around the world. [Marie Nishiyama: medieval harp] Internationally known as a rare musician equally at home on two period instruments, the harpsichord and the historical harp. She graduated from Tokyo College of Music and completed the postgraduate course there before studying at the Civica Scuola di Musica in Milan and the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. She took first prize in the harpsichord division of the 11th Yamanashi Early Music Competition (and served on the jury of the 23rd), and received the Tochigi "Kura no Machi" Music Festival Award. She is a member of the ensemble Anthonello and artistic director of the early music workshop Shinshu Early Music Village. She teaches harpsichord as a part-time lecturer at Musashino Academia Musicae. Naxos Japan
