Following "Gold on the Rhine" in 2015 and "Die Walküre" in 2016, the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Jaap van Zweden present the third "Wagner: Der Ring des Nibelungen" cycle. This performance in the familiar concert format accurately conveys the tense and stifling exchanges in "Siegfried," which has the fewest characters of all the "Wagner: Der Ring des Nibelungen. The story of the hero's development in a magical world is sung by the masterful Simon O'Neill. The best bass-baritone of our time, Matthias Goerne, looks after him. Of course, the Zweden/Hong Kong Philharmonic's tone is profound and spins exactly the sound that Wagner would have wanted.
