Description:
Maciejewski was a Polish composer. He received his early education in Berlin, studied in Poland with Szymanowski and in Paris with Boulanger, and in Paris, where he lived from 1934, he was friends with Milhaud, Stravinsky, Poulenc, and Honegger, and with Arthur Rubinstein. His own style was strongly influenced by the later works of Szymanowski, but the "Arrangements for Two Pianos" on this album were apparently written in Sweden, where he lived at the time, in the 1940s, and were performed at "Concerts in aid of Polish refugees" held in Gothenburg and Stockholm. It is said to have been performed in a duo with British and Russian pianists at "Concerts in aid of Polish refugees" in Gothenburg and Stockholm. The works were long forgotten, but their popularity was rekindled when his brother, the acclaimed Polish radio director Wojciech Maciejewski, featured them in a broadcast in the late 1980s.
