Berg (1885-1935)

Description:

Lulu" was the most popular opera of the Bavarian State Opera's 2014/2015 season. The performance, featuring acclaimed conductor Kirill Petrenko, was broadcast live and attracted the attention of music fans around the world. The opera "Lulu" was written by Alban Berg in his last years. Berg was so impressed by the stage performance of "Pandora's Box" by Wedekind in 1905 that he combined it with another play, "Earth Spirit". This mysterious storyline was born. This work about a femme fatale (femme fatale) whose hero Lulu seduces and destroys various men and women, eventually getting herself killed, is also known for its use of the twelve-tone technique, which is "extremely difficult to play. Since Berg died without completing the work, it is often performed in the form of lines inserted into the completed second act, but the version here is in three acts with Czerha's additions. The performance, which showed Petrenko's abilities as an opera conductor to the fullest, was highly acclaimed for rewriting the history of "Lulu" performances. The staging by Cherniakov, prepared for this production, is simple and modern. In order to depict the complicated psychology of the characters, he has eliminated unnecessary elements as much as possible. Marius Petersen, who sings the difficult role of Lulu, was awarded "singer of the year" by "Opernwelt" (a German music magazine) in 2015. Naxos Japan
