Gilbert Roland is a harpsichordist specializing in keyboard music of the Baroque period. He is especially acclaimed for his performance of Antonio Sorel, a composer who was a contemporary of Handel. On this album, he performs a suite by Mattezon, a well-known close friend of Handel. This is a suite of 12 pieces composed in 1714, and Roland plays the entire piece with great care, without cutting any of the "repetition" that is often done when performing works from this period.
