Jean-Baptiste Arban (Alban) was a French cornetist, conductor, and composer. He is known as the first master performer of the piston style. Influenced by Paganini's brilliant playing, he pioneered superb technique on the cornet. He pursued the possibilities of the instrument and published "Metodo for Piston Cornet and Saxorn," and many contemporary players have benefited from this instructional book. The works on this album are based on the famous melodies of Verdi's operas, and are performed on the cornet.
