Description:
Orlando di Lasso, a composer of the Flemish school of late Renaissance music, was one of the most influential composers in Europe at the end of the 16th century, and his fame was so great that in 1570 the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II took him into the nobility. He left behind nearly 60 masses, but this "Requiem in five voices" has rarely been performed. Here it is performed for the first time with brass, and the deep, soothing tones of the sackbutts in particular color the work. The performance is structured in such a way that the progression of the Requiem is interwoven with a number of motets that are also intended to mourn death. Naxos Japan
