Prokofiev's (1891-1953) Piano Concerto series, a collaboration between conductor Hanne Lintu and pianist Olli Mustonen, who is currently the most popular conductor on the ONDINE label, is now available! Prokofiev was also a skilled pianist, and all of his concertos require a high level of technique, but his Third Concerto in particular has gained such wide popularity that it has been praised as "one of the most representative works of the 20th century. The piano's brilliant passage that suddenly appears after a slow introduction, the witty melody in the second movement, and the delightful dialogue between the piano and orchestra in the third movement are all worth listening to, but Mustonen's piano always maintains a cool head and engages in an intimate dialogue with Lintu. The first piece, though short, is a unique piece that offers a glimpse of Prokofiev's later originality. The way he treats the piano like a percussion instrument is reminiscent of Bartók's works. No. 4 was commissioned by Paul Wittgenstein, the "left-handed pianist," but it is known that Prokofiev did not perform it during his lifetime because Wittgenstein did not perform it because he did not understand it (there are various theories about this).It is a difficult piece with a high ratio of orchestra as well as perfect technique of piano.
