This “Fortunate Mistake,” which premiered in 1812, is a fast-paced comedy depicting the commotion caused by Duchess Isabella—who has been the subject of unfounded rumors—and her enraged husband, Bertrand. That said, the premise—in which a husband, suspecting his wife of infidelity, puts her in a small boat and sets her adrift at sea—is certainly quite extreme... Bad Wildbad, Germany, is known alongside Pesaro as a “Rossini mecca.” Here, too, the “Rossini Festival” has been held annually since 1989 and is famous for drawing huge crowds of fans. The 2015 production, directed by Jochen Schönleber, was a huge hit. Led by the popular bass singer Regazzo, along with Dalla Benetta as Isabella and conductor Foliani, they create utterly captivating music that brings this lively story to life.
