He first went into exile there in the 1850s after a warrant was issued for his arrest following his participation in the Dresden Revolution; later, after receiving the patronage of Ludwig II of Bavaria, he withdrew to Switzerland when public opposition to him intensified. In particular, it is a famous anecdote that during his stay in Zurich, he met Otto Wesendonck, and his deep relationship with Otto’s wife, Mathilde, gave rise to “Tristan and Isolde.” However, little was known about the actual environment in which Wagner lived. ★This documentary centers on a documentary in which Antoine Wagner (born in 1982, a young photographer based in New York) visits other descendants and scholars of Wagner to hear their memories of him, and the film is structured primarily around this documentary. ★As bonus footage, the film includes a total of 79 minutes of content, such as interviews with Efa Rieger, a professor of music history at the University of Bremen, and conductor Philippe Jordan, as well as footage of Switzerland’s famous mountain peaks filmed in collaboration with the Swiss Tourism Board.
