Description:
Christy and Homoki teamed up and it couldn't be less interesting!!!! Charpentier's "David and Jonathan" by Charpentier, the first video of the much talked about beautiful soprano Quintanche!!!! Vis is also doing her best in women's clothing. Here is the first video of Marc-Antoine Charpentier's (1643-1704) "David and Jonathan (David and Jonathas)," first performed in Paris on February 28, 1688, based on the famous Old Testament story of Saul, David, and Jonathan. It is an imposing tragedy in prologue and five acts. However, without the court protection of Jean-Baptiste Lully, a generation older, Charpentier's productions are relatively compact, and "David and Jonathan" is just over two hours net. Because of its famous story, "David and Jonathan" is a good introduction to French Baroque opera for us today. The great William Christie is devoted to "David and Jonathan," which he recorded in 1988 for HMF (revived in 2012 on HMX2901289) alongside the stage production, and has frequently featured it since then, in 1994, 2004, 2012, and 2013. Recorded here is a performance at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in July 2012. It is a comprehensive account of Christie's "David and Jonathan". David is tenor Pascal Charbonneau from Ottawa, Canada. Charbonneau, who had previously played only light roles, achieved success with this David and came to be noticed as an old music tenor. Ana Quintanche of Jonatas is a Portuguese soprano. Some of you may remember her from the 2007 La Folle Journée in Japan, where she sang under the baton of Michel Corbo, and she was quite a hit. The baritone Neil Davis, a Welsh baritone well-known in baroque vocal music, sings Sayul with great stability and acting ability. He has a sense of stability as well as acting ability. Assis is played by Frederic Caton, a French baritone of great ability. Joabelle is Kresimir Spitel, a Croatian tenor of Slovak descent with a beautiful voice. To my delight, Dominique Vis, who also sang the priestess in the 1988 recording, is the priestess here as well. Although he is a good at playing the role of a womanizer, his performance here as a womanizer in the style of an ordinary housewife is quite memorable. Andreas Homoki's production seems to be set in Morocco or Algeria in the 20th century, in a town where Christians and Muslims live together.Jonatas and David are close as brothers, but David's understanding mother has passed away, and by the time David returns from military service as a young man, Sayul has grown distant from the relationship between his son and David. The delicate balance of ethnic relations is soon shattered, leading to tragedy.... This is a modern-day story of David's role and his grief in the Old Testament, where fierce tribal warfare is commonplace. While the dance pantomimes David and Jonathas as boys, Jonathas is a soprano dressed as a man, which is used to portray a deep but pure love between Jonathas and David that goes beyond friendship and highlights the sad fate of the two on both sides. It is an interesting setting in many ways. The scene of Samuel's spirit, originally placed in the prologue, has been moved to later in the third act as the story unfolds. King International
