Here comes the second Bach album by world-renowned solo marimba player, Makoto Nagura! As one of the leading solo marimba players of his generation, Makoto Nagura is based in the United States and has been active internationally. In response to his ever-aggressive attitude, many composers from around the world have dedicated many works to him, which are original and open up completely new horizons in marimba performance. In his concerts of these works, Nagura has also frequently performed his own arrangements of classical music. The variety of tonal qualities he has pursued in his performances of cutting-edge contemporary music and the ultimate refinement of his technique have dramatically expanded the possibilities of the marimba as an instrument in the performance of classical music. BACH BEAT II," the follow-up to the first release in 2008, is a work in which Nagura's more evolved approach shines through. Recorded in May and July 2014 at the Kobe Shoin Women's University Chapel, where the Bach Collegium Japan makes its recording home, the exquisite microphone arrangements by the brilliant engineer Hideo Irimajiri reproduce a limpid sound field with rich reverberation and a transparent atmosphere.
