Sallinen: Chamber Music Collection (2 CDs) A collection of chamber music by the Finnish contemporary composer Sallinen. Celebrating his 80th birthday in 2015, he creates music that is both pleasing to the ear and explores innovative sounds, while never straying from tonality. This collection of chamber music was composed between 1975 and 2009, often undertaken after the completion of opera projects. Each piece incorporates dance elements such as the tango and waltz, and—as exemplified by No. 3, which is essentially a cello concerto—features a unique structure in which various instruments take center stage.
