Volume 9 of “The Britannic Organ” recreates recordings of performances by the organists who supported the development of the Werte organ in the United States, as well as by Edwin Lummer, a concert organist born in England who was primarily active in the United States. M. Vertex & Schoen, a manufacturer of automatic musical instruments founded in Freiburg in 1832, operated a branch on Fifth Avenue in New York from 1865 to 1917. During this period, numerous organ (and piano) performances were recorded. This two-disc set recreates, some 100 years later, the performances of American organists active during that era, as well as the recordings of the aforementioned Lumea. These virtuoso performances, recorded using the finest technology of the time, offer a unique charm distinct from modern recordings. Naxos Japan
