No. 140, one of Bach's most popular cantatas, is for the 27th Sunday after Trinity. It is in the form of a chorale cantata, and the chorale used here is by Philip Nicolai. It is a brilliant and beautiful melody. The aria is sung by Nuria Rial, a soprano who has been in the spotlight recently. No. 57 is a cantata for the "Second Day of the Nativity. The title "the man" means "the man who endures trials. This is the feast day of St. Stephen the Martyr, and perhaps in light of this, Bach added a mournful aria to this piece. No. 73 is a cantata for the "Third Sunday after the Presentation. The music is sober but full of quiet beauty. Naxos Japan
