Description:
No. 22 is for the Lord's Day of "Lent". Using verses 31-43 of the 18th chapter of the Gospel of Luke, it depicts the scene where Jesus prophesies His Passion to the Twelve Apostles with Jerusalem in sight. Thoughts of faith in the cross are sung for those who suffer from a lack of understanding of Christ's words. No. 60 is a cantata for the 24th Sunday after Trinity. It depicts a story of a dialogue between personified "fear" and "hope" before death. The peace that comes at the end of the piece is very moving. No. 34 is a cantata for "Pentecost. It is considered to be a masterpiece among masterpieces. Although it was written in Bach's later years, the material was actually taken from an earlier marriage cantata. It is a charming cantata with gorgeous music. Naxos Japan
