This 4-CD set commemorates Gustav Mahler's two-year anniversary year from 2010 to 2011. This passionate performance alone is sure to satisfy. Of special note is the musical drama "The World, and Dreams," which begins on the last track of CD 1. To be honest, until I saw the actual CD, I thought that it would be difficult to sell this in Japan. However, when I actually listened to it, I found it to be infinitely wonderful. The story is divided into 10 chapters, and Mahler's upbringing, suffering, and love are painstakingly picked up. And of course, there is plenty of music to accompany it. (The sound sources are mainly BR's and are made by well-known manufacturers.(Great performances by Kubelik, Boulez, Kirchschlager, and others add to the drama.) Even if you don't understand German, you'll have a lot of fun. Why not lose yourself in the drama of burning love? Naxos Japan
