This is a single-disc release of the bonus CD from the “Great Singers Series” 6-disc box set (900309). The singer is Elisabeth Grümmer, known as the mentor of Yumiko Samejima. Born in Germany, she initially worked as an actress but made her opera debut in Aachen in 1941. From 1946 onward, she performed as a lyric soprano at the Berlin City Opera, and was subsequently invited to music festivals in Edinburgh, Bayreuth, and Salzburg, gaining worldwide recognition. From 1953 onward, she became a popular singer at the Vienna State Opera and was also known as a specialist in the works of Mozart and R. Strauss. Her Mozart performances there can be said to represent the very best of her artistry. In 1963, she also sang the role of the Countess in *The Marriage of Figaro* in Japan. Naxos Japan
