Description:

Hermann Pry (1929-1998), Germany's legendary tenor, grew up in Germany during the Nazi era. He grew up in Germany during the Nazi era and studied voice at the Berlin University of Music. 1952, he won the Hessian Radio Music Competition and gradually gained fame as an opera singer, using recitals of songs as a springboard, He became a popular singer at the Hamburg Opera and the Metropolitan Opera, where he sang Mozart and Rossini roles, which were his specialty. He was especially good at Papageno in "The Magic Flute," and it is well known that he sang Papageno in Chagall's famous production of "The Magic Flute" at the Metropolitan Opera in 1967. He also made his debut as a "Wagner singer" at the Bayreuth Festival in 1965, where he caught people's attention with his wonderful Wolfram.Nevertheless, he is a German Lieder singer in his own right, and his numerous recordings of Schubert and Beethoven, which can be heard here, continue to fascinate listeners with a different flavor from that of Fischer-Dieskau. This album is a collection of recordings from his appearances on the Munich broadcast program "Sunday Concerts," including some previously unreleased material; the taut, youthful voice at the height of his powers in 1966 has a powerful impact that cannot be forgotten once heard, and the refined voice of 1992 is also unforgettable. The voice of 1992 has also reached a state of subdued elegance. Savarisch's superb piano accompaniment in Beethoven's song cycle is also a treat to hear. Naxos Japan
