Composed around 1645, "On the Cross" is regarded as one of Schütz's greatest works. Schütz's faithfulness and musical mastery at the peak of his maturity are fully realized in this wonderful piece. The "John Passion," on the other hand, is a 40-minute drama from 1665, written in Schütz's late years with a clear and concise style.
