This is a Billie Holiday tribute album by Paula Sannerholm, a rising star from Sweden, which starts with a famous Duke song. Paula Sannerholm is a singer with a white blues voice that sounds like a younger version of Billie, with a touch of snatchiness. Julie Wilson and many other singers have recorded Billy's beloved songs, but the origin of Billy's songs is not his voice but the inevitability of singing the lyrics of the songs. In a sense, "strange fruit" in the present "time" has other meanings, and the lyrics of many of the crazy songs here may have a different meaning now. Billy departs from the sound of the swing era. She sang of the anger, envy, and pain for men that lurked within us all, without letting the changes of the times into her songs. Billy's world is too big for her. Here, we want to listen to Paula's plaintive voice in (3). Here's to Paula singing over the swingy sound of the backing band. Among the songs in the recording, her signature flavor comes out in (5) and (7), including the backing music. Swing more, swing more easily! Paula!
