The instrument is a positive organ built by Tetsuo Kusakari in 2004 Mizunoko Tsukatani’s album released in 2012—the *Goldberg Variations* (PCD1204), recorded on the world-renowned and historic Christian Müller organ at St. Bavo’s Church in Haarlem, the Netherlands—generated significant buzz in music publications. Just one year after that release, she has already recorded the same piece again!! This comes as a surprise. However, this is not merely another recording of the Goldberg Variations; this release holds the following significance: Building on the recording at St. Bavo’s Church, this release represents an attempt to fully express the work using the smallest possible positive organ—an approach that is a complete 180-degree turnaround. By taking this diametrically opposed approach, Mizuko Tsukatani completes her vision of two Goldberg Variations with entirely different characteristics. “Reading the score of the *Goldberg Variations* was like untangling a knotted ball of thread. As each thread was untangled one by one, the *Goldberg Variations* revealed itself to be a dissection of Bach—a treasure chest brimming with charm. The instrument used is a positive organ built in 2004 by Tetsuo Kusakari, one of Japan’s most renowned and charismatic organ builders; it is a small instrument with only three stops. However, the beauty and richness of its tone rival even those of large church organs equipped with pedalboards.
