Description:

The definitive masterpiece! Netherlands-based organist Mizunako Tsukatani recorded the Gortberg Variations on pipe organ! The instrument used is the large organ of St. Bapho's Church in the Netherlands, where Mozart and Liszt have also played! Mizumuko Tsukatani, a Japanese organist who has been arranging and performing masterpieces of classical music herself, overturned the conventional wisdom of pipe organs and recorded Bach's masterpiece of all masterpieces, the Golteberg Variations, on pipe organ! Mizumuko Tsukatani is the first Japanese organist to record this major work, and it is sure to become the definitive organ version of the piece. =The organ used is the large organ of St. Bapho's Church in Haarlem, the Netherlands, where Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Liszt have performed. This organ is a world-famous instrument that only world-renowned organists such as maestros Marie-Claire Alain and Sigismont Szatmary were allowed to record, and the breadth of sound, beauty of resonance, and presence of the organ are overwhelming. Mizunoko Tsukatani's encounter with this famous instrument dates back to her days as a student at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music, where she had the opportunity to play it while studying under Jacques van Ootmersen. Since then, I have played this instrument many times, so I was able to record this piece with a full understanding of the characteristics of this organ. =Tsukatani's skillful registration of this gigantic organ, which has approximately 6,000 pipes, creates a beautiful sound, as if Bach himself had specified the stops. In the organ version of the Golberg, the melody is often obscured by too many stops and the original beautiful sound is often lost, but this performance by Mizunako Tsukatani uses only transparent stops and refrains from excessive ornaments, thus beautifully expressing the essence and beauty of the piece. I am not a fan of loud organ music. Even those who do not like loud organ music will be impressed by the wonderful tone of this performance. =The recording was made by Daniel van Holsen, an engineer with his own label. He has recorded all of Mizumako Tsukatani's recordings to date, and has earned the utmost trust. Mr. Holsen himself majored in organ at university, and is well known for his organ recordings, as he knows the characteristics of organ music and church sound recordings. This recording uses a one-point recording, allowing the listener to enjoy a performance rich in realism. King International
